Digging with Purpose

Our Story
J. Lance Holmes didn't take the conventional path to founding a company. Born and raised across Uruguay, Texas, and Kansas, Lance served his country as a reconnaissance pilot flying Birddog
aircraft in Vietnam before beginning a career in construction with a large Texas firm.
In the late 1970s, Lance and his wife Sylvia answered a different calling — relocating to Southern Mexico as bush pilot missionaries, where they served for 18 years. When they returned to the United States in 1992, Lance brought with him a lifetime of discipline, adaptability, and hard work.
He put that experience to use building the utility division for M.B. White in Spartanburg, SC —
and in 2002, he took the next step, founding Holmes Underground, Inc.
Today, Holmes Underground is truly a family business — three generations strong.
Lance and Sylvia's daughters and grandsons work side by side, carrying forward the same values
that have defined this company from the beginning: integrity, craftsmanship, and a commitment
to doing difficult work the right way.
